SPRINGER, New Mexico
Where the High Plains Meet the Foothills

With a history as colorful as the buildings that line its streets, Springer finds its beginnings in the turbulent days of the Maxwell Land Grant, when the Utes and Apaches roamed the territory, and trappers, prospectors, buffalo hunters, cattlemen, and outlaws sought their fortunes all across the land.

Springer was named for Frank Springer, a brilliant lawyer from Iowa who arrived in Cimarron on February 22, 1873. As attorney for the Maxwell Land Grant Company, he won stubbornly contested litigations which lasted nearly 20 years. An historic case was won in the U.S. Supreme Court, and it is said that Mr. Springer presented one of the finest land grant arguments ever made before that tribunal. Mr. Springer became president of the Maxwell Land Grant Company in 1891 and directed the development of this vast area into cattle ranches and farming, timber and mining enterprises. His CS Ranch brought one of the first herds of hereford cattle to the area in 1882. The CS Cattle Company is operated today by his descendants. He and his brother Charles were responsible for building Eagle Nest Dam in 1916. A man of many interests, he was a world authority in geology and paleontology -- his fossil crinoid collection is now in the U.S. National Museum in Washington, D.C. He was a founder of both New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas and the New Mexico Art Museum in Santa Fe.

Springer is also home to New Mexico'sfirst and only electric chair (complete with a battered glamour mannequin about to be fried) and a "shoe of a giant" -- a brown wingtip that once belonged to Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man.

    May not tell my friends...

I know I know, it’s a metal disk with handles, how great could it be? It’s GREAT. Awesome quality, love the spring handles. Couldn’t ask for a better discada and I’m very happy to support a small business making a high quality product. Trying to decide if I want to refer all of my friends or if I want to be the envy of everyone on our group camp outs....

    Awesome Just Awesome!!!

Posted by Ed H on 20th Jan 2021

I was very impressed with the quality of the discada. After giving it a bit more seasoning, I cooked bacon and burgers and they were the juiciest burgers ever. The following week I went with Fajitas and I was able to have the meat pulled to the sides while cooking the peppers and onions and I was able to put the tortillas on the edges as well. The 22” is the perfect size for a family of 4. Really like how quickly it cleans up after seasoning it some more. Thanks for an awesome product.

    Great Disk

Posted by Joel on 19th Nov 2020

After purchasing an aluminum and a stainless disk from a big box store I was always disappointed with the results. The food would get stuck and burn even at the lowest heat setting. My father who owns a disk that was given to him by his uncle has seen use for over 35 years and never disappoints us. I wanted something with those same characteristics, a product that not only heats evenly but that is also robust and made of thick quality materials so that maybe one day I can pass it on to my son. That’s what this disk is, since the day I received it I knew I had purchased a quality product. It is heavy around 24 pounds and it’s made of thick 1/4 inch steel, plus it was pre-seasoned. Great product would highly recommend, buy a quality product once instead of buying inferior products twice.

    Quality

Excellent quality. I upgraded to the 24” Moab Rim before I ever cooked a meal on the Santa Fe. My son is the proud owner of the Santa Fe now.

    Fantastic Discada

Posted by Richard A Curtis on 12th Oct 2020

Received my 22" Discada a few days after ordering. The disk needed a good wiping down with oil all over then I put it to use. Love it. The angle of the sides are not to steep so that food can be pulled away from the high heat to rest or stay warm. The 22" is a perfect size for cooking up severla items at once, glad I chose it. I opted for the spring handles which do not get hot and makes for easy repositioning. Highly recommend over any other discada or skottle.
