SPRINGER, New Mexico
Where the High Plains Meet the Foothills

With a history as colorful as the buildings that line its streets, Springer finds its beginnings in the turbulent days of the Maxwell Land Grant, when the Utes and Apaches roamed the territory, and trappers, prospectors, buffalo hunters, cattlemen, and outlaws sought their fortunes all across the land.

Springer was named for Frank Springer, a brilliant lawyer from Iowa who arrived in Cimarron on February 22, 1873. As attorney for the Maxwell Land Grant Company, he won stubbornly contested litigations which lasted nearly 20 years. An historic case was won in the U.S. Supreme Court, and it is said that Mr. Springer presented one of the finest land grant arguments ever made before that tribunal. Mr. Springer became president of the Maxwell Land Grant Company in 1891 and directed the development of this vast area into cattle ranches and farming, timber and mining enterprises. His CS Ranch brought one of the first herds of hereford cattle to the area in 1882. The CS Cattle Company is operated today by his descendants. He and his brother Charles were responsible for building Eagle Nest Dam in 1916. A man of many interests, he was a world authority in geology and paleontology -- his fossil crinoid collection is now in the U.S. National Museum in Washington, D.C. He was a founder of both New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas and the New Mexico Art Museum in Santa Fe.

Springer is also home to New Mexico'sfirst and only electric chair (complete with a battered glamour mannequin about to be fried) and a "shoe of a giant" -- a brown wingtip that once belonged to Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man.

    22" bbq spring handle disc

Posted by Unknown on 19th Sep 2020

I recently went on a hunting trip with some friends from New Mexico and was introduced to the "disco" style cooking. It was amazing and I had to have one. I found this website, ordered the one I wanted and got an authentic New Mexico disco in a couple of days. I couldnt be happier. Thank you for the quick shipping and great quality product.

    22" BBQ SPRING HANDLE DESIGN

Posted by Ryan Moore on 19th Jul 2020

I was disappointed to find out they were out of the 24-in size which I was convinced I needed. Common Sense prevailed and I ordered the 22-in instead and all I can say is it is HUGE. Huge in a good way. It is more than big enough for any large family or gathering. 24 in would have just been overkill for me. This is truly a work of art that will last forever and probably become a family heirloom. I could not be happier.

    so much fun

Posted by Barbara on 29th Jun 2020

Bought the 22" disk w/spring handle, mainly so when we go camping we can cook breakfast for a crowd. Had a trial run at home making breakfast. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and biscuits. Didn't disappoint. We also cooked sirloin steak in teriyaki along with some assorted fresh veggies. Tasted wonderful. So glad we ordered the disk. Just ordered the adjustable burner. (We have been using an old one from a discarded turkey fryer. Not quite as stable as I would like and needs to be taller) Can't wait to try it.

Enough disk to cook for a party!

Posted by Lar H on 19th Aug 2019

I received the disk promptly. I have only cooked on it twice so far. Very unique way to prepare meals. Very entertaining. Looks like it will take a fair amount of time to season... much like cast iron. Looking forward to it. I recommend the case for the disk to somewhat protect the disk and keep the critters away
